Stunning dress made from old books. Size small
You run down the stone spiral steps. Your favourite novel is waiting to be read beneath the apple tree and you can’t wait to find out what happens in the next chapter…
Ideas: This is the perfect dress for a photo shoot, for publicity for a special occasion such as a literary event. It could be your World Book Day costume. If you’re a big fan of reading, it could even be an alternative wedding dress.
Materials: The dress is fully lined in cotton and is completely covered in the pages from out-of-print books.
The dress was a winner in a fashion show judged by Game of Thrones, Arya Stark actress, Maisie Williams.
The skirt is elasticated, but as the pages are heavy, there are also cotton straps to help hold it up. The bodice fastens with ribbons at the back.
I have used all sorts of techniques with this outfit: twisting, curling, punching, folding and crimping and it took many, many hours to make! Twisted roses, layered daisies, curled strands of paper and die-cut butterflies all adorn this dress, which is made up of frilled and gathered paper. The bodice has woven paper at the front with book spines being like the boning of a corset.
Measurements: Bust: 36” / 92cm. Waist: 31” / 79cm. Hips free. (Due to the adjustable corset back, it could be worn smaller.)
NB The waist of the skirt is currently unfinished and the elastic is held firmly in place with a strong safety pin. Please let me know if you’d like me to leave it like this (it doesn’t show) so it is adjustable, or whether you’d like me to sew it up. It could fit up to 36″ waist, so please let me know your waist size.
