If you haven’t seen my blog post about it, I thought I’d pop into the News section and let you know that it’s the New Forest Fairy Festival this weekend, the 14th and 15th of August. It’s a wonderful day out, and I’ll be having my Threads of a Fairytale stall there again this year, so hopefully I’ll see you there! Come and say hello!

Purple bohemian fairy dress
Hi! Just letting you know I’m starting to list all the clothing I’ve made over the last year! Three photo-shoots are now in the bag, so I’m ready to go ahead and list everything in the Threads of a Fairytale shop! I’m starting with this purple boho dress that we photographed in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago. It’s approximately 3XL and would fit a few plus sizes from 20 – 24.
You could style it as a fairy dress with a pair of wings and a sprinkle of glitter; or dress it down with trainers and wear to an evening at a friend’s house!
Fairytale photo shoot!
Yesterday my daughter, Rain and I drove to a beautiful stately home and garden to take photos of some of my latest handmade fairytale clothing. Here’s a little sneak peak!
We were a little rushed as they locked the car park gate at 5pm, but we wanted to have the softer light of late afternoon. So we had eleven outfits altogether to fit into a very short amount of time! I’ve had a quick look and I’m really happy with the results.
And over the next few weeks I’ll be adding the items to the Threads of a Fairytale shop so look out for all the new whimsical and romantic clothing coming your way!
Merry Midsummer Solstice!
At this time of year you’re much more likely to spot a fairy, so here are three tips to help you see one:
1. Take a stroll in nature – especially by trees or wild flowers if you can.
2. Pay attention to what you don’t normally notice.
3. Dress yourself like a fairy so they’ll think you’re one of them and openly show themselves!
Ps. If you need any help with number 3, just take a look for fairy clothing in the Threads of a Fairytale shop!
How I make the fairytale clothing
I began my YouTube channel about five years ago with the purpose of sharing everything behind-the-scenes of running my small handmade clothing business, Threads of a Fairytale. Over the years I have shared everything from how I make the clothing, to how I organise my sewing studio, to our trips out for the photoshoots for the shop and Instagram. And along with that I’ve shared my personal life too….
I’ve launched a Patreon Page
After much dithering, I’ve decided to start a Patreon page. If you haven’t heard of Patreon before, it’s a place where you can go to support your favourite creatives. I’m starting with two options – for £3 a month you can have access to my Patreon feed with behind-the-scenes photos and news of what’s going on for the business, and more personal happenings, along with sewing and other craft and writing tips. You also get to watch my YouTube videos a day early. For £5 a month you get all that, plus two pieces of exclusive content – at least one will be a sewing process video, and the other will most likely be a video as well, but maybe art related, or perhaps a short story. You’ll also get a 10% off code for the Threads of a Fairytale shop, and my Etsy gift shop, by Helen Hobden.
If that sounds like something you might be interested in, please head on over to my Patreon page. Thank you!
I’m back on YouTube!
Hi! Just letting you know that after a five month break, I’m now back in the swing of things and posting videos on YouTube again! They’re in a slightly different format to before – from now on, instead of stand-alone videos, these are all going to be weekly vlogs. They’re mostly based in my home-studio, so if you’d like to catch sneak peaks of what is to come in the Threads of a Fairytale shop, you can see snippets of me making the clothing, or photographing it ready for the shop. So if you’re interested in the behind-the-scenes of this little business, or just want a little nosey at my messy house, please go on over to my YouTube channel!
We have a roadmap out of lockdown. What are you wearing?
So we’re into March now, and at last there are signs of this third lockdown being over in the coming months, but I have a feeling working from home will still be the norm for many people for the first half of 2021 at least. Are you still enjoying wearing pyjamas all day? Or lounge pants and a nice-ish top suitable for zoom? I don’t want you to miss this opportunity…

A mini behind-the-scenes video
I just remembered that I have some video footage of the day we did the photo shoot I talked about in my recent blog post. So I’ve put together a little mini video of us photographing sheer maxi dresses, and I’ve posted it on Instagram.
